Buy or make a hand vacuum press?

I know this is a real newbie question but please bear with me.

I'm just starting out and having trouble finding a vacuum hand press in the UK, and even though I have the money to buy a good used one I keep missing out on auctions on ebay etc.

I'm now contemplating building my own vacuum press, but I was wondering if anyone here has built a press big enough to comfortably print A2 (420mm x 594mm), and, if so, is this really the way to go when starting out. There is something charming about the handmade, but I'm not sure if my skills are up to it.

I have Andy Mac's great book and plans for a press but just unsure as to whether it is a good route.

Any advice would be appreciated.

The build plans are in the premium section. Go premium and you will find the help you need.
(Oh, and I let my premium lapse. Need to take care of that.)

Go premium, get plans, build it in an afternoon, start printing.

tha plans in the premium section (and photos) are for the same basic vac press in the book, just way more photos and updated construction techniques. 16"x23" - perfect fit on a 24x36 base with 18"x26" vac area.

I just seem to be one of those who has to buy the kit - someone needs to knock it out of me I guess.
