In Search of Thick Paper

I tried searching the existing threads, but despite my best efforts could not seem to find anything discussing paper any thicker than 100#.

Does anyone have experience printing on something like French's Muscletone 140# paper? If not, are there any other papers thicker than 100# that are good for printing on? Or is it silly to be looking for a paper that is thicker than 100#?

I'm not sure if this matters at all, but the project is just a one color print on white paper.

Paper "weight" isn't the best way to judge thickness in paper. If you are looking specifically for thickness you should be examining the caliper of paper. Plus you also should look at the type of paper it is, you could get 140lb text paper and it could be flimsier than 100lb Cover stock which could even be flimsier that a 60lb Board.

You could go with some of the heavier art papers, depending on the kind of quality you want. Arches 88 is a really nice screenprinting paper and is approximately 300#.

I learned a little bit about paper weight only roughly relating to paper thickness in a previous thread, but I'm still not sure how to find out the caliper of the paper before physically having the paper. Looking at two pieces of paper and feeling the thickness and difference between them is one thing, but is there a way to calculate the caliper based on its specs before having the paper in your hand?
The French paper I was referring to is 140lb. cover stock. I haven't made that mistake yet (...yet).

I should probably know this, but... board? is that an option as well?

Muscletone is thick, but not the thickest. Call Mac Papers or Xpedx, have them build you a sample set, go from there.

Muscletone does not roll. I learned this the hard way and had to redo a job that was supposed to ship in tubes. I called French and they told me that Muscletone is designed to fold and score very well which equals a disaster in a tube.

uhm Luther do you know if there is a nice fine are paper like coventry rag that is square and deckled edges on all side, and 23 inches ? I'm looking for thick stuff too...also for a one color print. preferably something astronauts would print with...?

Thankfully, I don't have to put these prints in tubes, so that won't be an issue. But thanks for the heads up!

Look for Revere papers, they are sold through Legion Paper I know. Revere is prolly the most diverse line of art papers I have seen with 20 different shades and finishes.
