edge of darkness

anyone have a approx distance that image should stay away from edges of screen. How close can i get with my image to the edge (or frame) before i need to increase my screen size. This at first glance looks like a lame thread but Lets make this thread count guys. Whos with me. Lets make this the most awsomest thread ever. no but seriously any rule of thumb?

Or, do what thousands have done. Get a shitty speedball screen, get a squeegee that barely fits inside, measure the inside of your screen, then make your art 1" smaller - then wonder why it bleeds all over at the top and bottom, and won't print on the sides.

Then decide screenprinting is messy and sucks.

You can't print perfectly using frames that have got small distance between squeegee and inner side of the frame. I suggest to keep free about 12 better 15 centimeters from the side of the squeegee to the inner side of the frame. If you have a smaller screen try, then try to print the same job and you'll see a big difference: the mesh will return in its position like the rest of the mesh, the print won't have a distortion and the ink will be more flat/even/uniform. In other words you can print easier and your life will be better. If you won't to burn 2 screens make a film with the same art on the center of the screen and on the sides of the screen, then print and you'll see the difference, especially after the first prints.
