Half-tone Troubles...

Sorry, not trying to be a dick or a curmudgeon about this, but your questions sound like you're starting from complete scratch. I can't be sure that you know photoshop well enough to understand the instructions I would usually give. Read the tutorial I posted. Open multiple windows, make a haltone bitmap with a low LPI (20-40 lpi, 22 degrees for noobz) and then copy and paste the bitmap into the original artwork. You know you're making a different file for each "color" to be printed, aka a color separation. If you're not at least using a torrent/pirate copy of photoshop, there's little hope. No MS Word Art. Alternately, just take the artwork to kinko's and up the contrast to unbelievable levels and then expose that transparency for ultra punk legitimacy. But, most people here are going to assume you want something that looks like the original digital comp.

That's the awersome thing about screenprinting; I'm sure you'll get something even if it's a big black square in place of the halftone. MYSTERIOUSSSSS

I did read vroooom's recommended tutorial. And it has been a lot of help! Thank you! I'm not expecting one quick answer to get me through this, and the friend who asked me to do this poster KNOWS that I'm still just starting out. He wanted me to help so that I could get some experience, not because he expected professional, flawless posters. He is printing digital copies as well as asking me to screenprint some, so he's not completely S.O.L. if I don't come through for him. Once again, I was just hoping for a bit of a point in the right direction, not some magical fix-all answer.

Thanks again. I know next to nothing unfortunately, but this is helping. In the last hour or so since reading that tutorial, I've done quite a bit of experimenting with the bitmapping, and so far I've made considerable progress on this particular project. The only issue now is getting the bitmapped guy back into the original image...

Copy > Paste into file. Use the magic wand to select the white and then go to select > similar and delete out the white. But if you're just doing a halftone for a greyscale image, you should be fine copying and pasting.... Did I mention you should have two files open; one for converting something into the haltone, and one "master" for pasting the halftone back into?

If you do enjoy the screenprinting process, consider going premium. It doesn't open up as much info as buying Andy's book, but it does show that you're serious about printing and people will generally give more helpful info.

There is a magical fixit answer, though.

I do have two files open. That part I did earlier in order to adjust the levels and force the rest of the poster into true black and white. But once I decide to turn the image into a bitmap, it give me no choice but to flatten the image and then will not let me copy or paste. Odds are its user error somewhere, but I can't seem to figure out how to fix that. When the image is in greyscale, I have no problem copying and pasting the image, but the moment I change it to a bitmap, I pretty much lose all ability to change my image at all.

In photoshop, you should be able to switch back to greyscale from a bitmap and it will ask you for a conversion ratio. Just say 1:1 and you have a "greyscale" that's the same as your bitmap. But I can copy and past bitmaps in my copy of photoshop.
