Default Emulsion & Ink On Airplane

I live in semi-remote wilds on Vancouver Island where there are no screen printing suppliers. However, I fly to Calgary, Alberta several times a year--there are a couple of suppliers there. I'd like to buy emulsion and water-based inks there to bring back in my checked luggage. (I assume they won't let me take it as carry-on since a person could surely terrorize with the stuff. Chicken flyin' everywhere around the plane, could we ever feel much finer?)

Is is possible to take the stuff in checked luggage without it freezing in flight? Andy, how did you get your consumables up to Whithorse?

    Best,

    It won't freeze in cargo.

For flights... 3 oz. at a time...

I've had ink removed from my checked luggage by the security guys after it was checked but that was out of mexico. Other times (like this last week) they let a 2 oz bottle of India Ink through. who hoo!

On the island I just order it from Willox in Vancouver when i need ink or emulsion. i get it the next day by purolator or Dan Foss or whoever. No biggie.

the stuff to whitehorse they shipped by regular freight in a couple of small crates, it managed to survive.

Hobbz. Bikini. Not a good thought. Did the machine break? Or was the operator screaming?

I hear the best way to carry ink and emulsion on an airplane is to pack it into condoms and then swallow them.

You cannot take ink or emulsion on a plane checked or carry on. Or house paint for that matter. I've tried and ink and emulsion or not on the TSA's list of things. So they will not let you take them no matter how much you explain what they are.

I've found domestic Canadian flights to be a bit less prickly about mystery objects than the lovely folks with the TSA, I would just call the airport in Calgary and ask, they might just request you identify it or pack it a certain way. Or they'll try to charge you a bunch extra when you go check your bags, air Canada loves that trick.
