    Default basement setup questions...

ok i'm in the midst of setting up a screen printing shop in my basement for me to work out of. i'm mostly going to be doing shirts and hopefully 7 & 12 inch record jackets(i'm not limiting myself just simply stating what i'm mostely going to be working on) and i have a few questions i would like answered if possible.

    1) What are the ideal conditions to screen print in? winter is just around the corner, and the basement in NY is prolly not going to be the warmest place in the house. should i grab a space heater? and what would be the idel tempature?

    2) What are the pros and cons of transperancy paper to vellum and vise versa?

    3) What are some other unknow factors that i should be aware of/take into consideration?

i plan on goin premium...has got to wait till my next check.

get a space heater, vellum is can sometimes be difficult to get high detail on, make sure you have some good airflow going. nothing to it but to do it.

    1. get a space heater. store inks upstairs where the heat is so they don't get all gummy on you.

    2. i don't use either. ink jet transparencies paneled together.

    3. ventilation is good to have. find a place to dry your prints. i've run a cord from one side of the garage to the other to hang them on bulldog clips. floor space disappears pretty quick when you're printing a run of 50 11x17 prints. buy decent-ish equipment right off the bat. a good squeegee and screen coater, for example.

yup, a space heater is key, especially in an unfinished basement. It will also help speed up ink dry time as well = faster printing capabilities.

its actually on the way. aaron suggested it to me a while back, now that i have some money to spend i've picked up this book and another that seem to be pretty good. just waitin for this to come in. at the moment i have a silver 2c/1s press from ryonet. what can i do to cut down the amount of dust in the basement? and is there an ideal temerature for screen printing?

To cut down the amount of dust I suggest you clean the basement... a vacuum cleaner goes a long way, right?

obviously, but cleaning can go only so far with 5 cats that use 2 litter boxes down there.
