    Default Vellum/Film/Printer thoughts...

    Hello,

I was curious what you guys recommended for a system for outputting screens. My company has been using the same processes for a long long time and we are looking at updating. We are currently using Laser printers and a Toshiba laser photocopier for larger printing. We output to laser vellum.

I know there are a lot of printers and inkjet and laser etc. Wondering what you guys use/recommend? We also print a lot of posters so we need a system that can print larger sheets as well, even if they get spliced together.

    I'd appreciate any thoughts! Thanks.

    - Jon

Get a large format epson, buy a roll of transparent film. I don't have one, but I know there are quite a few people on here who do. Also the old go-to is the Epson 3000. It can print up to 17" wide, which might not be big enough for what you're hoping to do. Here's a thread about the 7600 which is an older model but might provide some insight.

who knows a shit-ton about the epson 7600?

I still use a lot of laser printed vellums. They make me want to quit printing every time I have to mess around with them. Go inkjet and never look back, especially if you get the correct films and are printers. Even if it's a little more expensive to buy films, you're going to save so much in labor time, exposures, heartaches.

Picking up an Epson 3000 for $75 off craigslist was a massive game-changer for me. Sharp BLACK positives that eclipse light.

I have an Epson 2200 that I got off Craigslist with enough photo paper to sell to cover the $40+ some extra Once I unclogged the print heads it works like a charm.

Do you guys feel like these type of machines + ink usage + vellum price can handle enough volume to be outputting 20 - 30 screens a day?

I wouldn't use vellum (clear film instead), but yet a good Epson can easily make 20 - 30 screens a day for many years. However my experience is with the stylus pro series.

Takes about 5 minutes to print a dark, 13x19 positive on a Stylus Photo R1800
