    Default Crazy Sounding Press

So I picked up this mag yesterday called Computer Arts Projects because it looked interesting. Inside there was an article about Hydro74 doing some promo pieces with Zoltron. I've seen both their work posted here. I guess Zoltron runs Sticker Robot which I did not know and there was a pretty cool start to finish of the whole sticker screenprinting process.

The crazy thing was the press they were talking about using. A Sakurai Cylinder Press. Its says the press uses a vacuum cylinder to grip and pull the vinyl sheets across the squeegee. Supposedly enabling much tighter registration than the normal way. The sticker that came with the mag was bad-ass with tight reg- but the thought of somehow pulling the vinyl from below baffles me.

Would Andy Mac or the Masked Zoltron care to elaborate?

Another really cool part of the article had them explaining the handmade dies for cutting out the stickers.

I've had an old Lawson cylinder press up here for ages, I can't even give that thing away.

Want to print 10,000 coroplast election signs in a day? It's just the thing.
    Someone please take it.

Thanks, that was an awesome video showing how it's done. Turns out there was a video that came with the mag but this one showed more of the actual machine working.

I've done a couple hundred election signs- hand laid 2 color vinyl on coroplast in a day and that fucking sucked. 10,000 though, good god machine or not.

Those cylinder presses seem like they would be great for someone like diesel who prints stickers all day. Are they just more expensive/have more upkeep needed?

Sakurai warriors. Cylinder presses are the ferraris of the screenprinting world.

Invented in the USA. (General cylinder press, Becmar)

Design taken to Japan and China.

They run at 3,000 sheet per hour.

fully automatic - they pick the stock up, grippers pull it over the cylinder. the squeegee bears down in the top center,(squeegee does not move, except up and down) as the screen moves in sync with the cylinder. the sheet coming off feeds under a UV lamp and cures instantly, then they go into a stacker. repeat.

I used to run a Trumax press back in the Uk, was practically the same as mc above. Mainly used for spot varnish over the top of preprinted sheets.

Anyway, will stop digging up old threads and go back to searching for Coraplast. (which know sod all about).

Coroplast is a plastic 'cardboard' sheet. It has flutes like regular corrugated cardboard, but it's all plastic. they use it for outdoor signs (election, sale, realestate, etc) it is light, easy to cut, and waterproof.

Invented in Canada. do a google search.

I moved to Canada from the UK 18 months ago, so i will take your word on it being a Canadian thingy. Haven't used it before, let alone tried to print on the bleedin stuff.

Incidently, someone down the pub told me that a Canadian invented the phillips screwdriver. Thought he was winding me up.
