Hey, we use a vacuum pump from a refrigerator, a bit slow... but free.
The blanket is 2mm natural rubber, really sturdy and the cheapest option we found in the size we needed.
wasn't some dude on here talking about septic tank liner for the vacuum top. i believe he said it was 'the shit'! badumbum!

If you understand how a vacuum unit works its pretty simple and cheap...the link given before here Neoprene Fabric, Sheets and Neoprene Rubber is where I got my neoprene (smooth raw) works great...One half of the roll I paid $50 for works on my 38"x38" exposure unit I use the other half if I print an all-over graphic on a t-shirt b/c it will push the seams into the neoprene and print cleanly over the seams. Other than that a piece of tempered glass is the most expensive thing - cost me $65 for my size, the rest is just wood and some hoses and plumbing pieces to hook up the blanket and hose...I use a damn inflatable mattress pump switched in reverse and it sucks it good! Real good. Oh and the toggle clamps I got from amazon...Yeah I used rubber trim liner from auto zone for the top seal and it def. works. Other than that I expose with a cheap ass metal halide grow light using a shutter system to let the bulb warm up to full intensity before letting it rip. Full vacuum, probably $150 for 38"x38", but now I want bigger, so.. you know.
How did you attach the rubber/bladder/neoprene to the wooden frame that folds down (adhesive I'm guessing). I am building a unit right now based off of these plans but have pond rubber for my blanket and was trying to decide what would be the best glue or whatever grimbalo used?
How do you pick up the glass? I need to remove my glass to adjust some bulb positions and replace one bulb. I have seen some giant suction cup things at places like Harbor Freight, but don't know how safe that would be. I think my table is something like 60".
