I am old so I can tell you....Crusties evolved around 1982-1984 from the kick ass second wave of metal influenced political punk of bands like Discharge, Chaos UK, GBH, Disorder, Crass, Flux Of Pink Indians and a million rad Finnish hardcore bands. etc. It was sort of the euro version of american hardcore...like not a lot of art students ya know. I myself was big fan of this scene back then, and probably have a pic or 2 somewhere wearing my psuedo GBh gear in the early 80's. I always saw it as a reaction against the early faggy 'art school' punks and the Skins....

I'm covering a bunch of these bands in my book, as they influenced a lot European extreme metal bands, like Sacrilege, Onslaught, and Agony. The Japanese shit from the same time period was on the similar trip; check out all the stuff Pushead was into back then.
