"Wanna waste $300 of your fundraiser dollars before calling your local screen printer and requesting a rush job? WELL THEN YUDU IS FOR YOU!" -ad man
HUGE 11x 14 screens! $27!
I like those flat frames actually, for small stuff, they're like Cd frames. Cheap and easy to make and stretch. (not worth $27)
It's the modern version of the Speedball kit.....brought to you by SlapChop
I want to see one of those fools print the bat, cookie jar, or ballcap on that big dumb thing.
They will make money hand over fist and dreams will be shattered. Awesome.
What's it cost?
299 for the box. click the 2nd link. Inks are expensive, frames, emulsion, all the little bits and pieces I'm sure add up.
that's funny the first link doesn't have a price anywhere, other than the 'trial price'.
I saw one at a local Michael's and its looked like junk to me. Other than the light table thing I think the cheap speedball kit is better to start from. All the molded plastic and the flimsy screens just felt like it would fall apart after you printed your 10th decorative pillow sham.
I met the people who make it early this year. I will offer that they are TOTALLY nice and bought a GRIP of posters from me.
I'll also add that for a few minutes I was uncomfortable about selling them prints - were they going to try to reverse-engineer "real" printing? Were they going to try to pass off my prints as coming out of a Yudu machine?
But I don't think it's that. I think they really appreciate the art form and made a product that for some people is exactly right. Look, not everybody does what we do - some people are totally happy with the results they get from these machines. And yeah, they could buy Andy's book and buy big boy supplies and take the plunge... or they could make little prints to sell on Etsy as a side hobby, not a way of life.
Shizouka!

I can't imagine being in this position and saying to myself "Hey! I bet the people at Gigposters will be helpful!". -Phoon
i did some designs for Venus Magazine to use at a Lollapalooza party printing tshirts on a Yudu this summer and Yudu sent me a full kit to test out. unfortunately they sent it kinda late and i didn't get to use it before having to turn in the design, but the Yudu crew printed a bunch of shirts on site with it and apparently it went well. Venus sent me a few too afterwards and they hold up fine.
i need to really try the machine out soon.
rick's right though, i don't think they are trying to replace commercial printing, but for the fun/gocco/low-fi set the Yudu is perfect.
i like fun.
