Screen printed Skull Magnet Process

I took some photos today while working on a batch of these.

The skull image is on an old screen that was for another piece that I made. In the future I will burn a new screen that is just a bunch of the skulls.

My press is just Speedball clamps mounted in 1/4 inch plywood.

Here we go.

First I cut out the 1/4 inch ply into rectangles and sand it.



Hand paint the color. This is usually done before the wood is cut up.



On the press I made a jig to hold the wood into place while it is being printed.

After the ink dries they are ready to be cut using a scroll saw.

The back edge needs to be sanded.



Using a Dremel I sand the back edge.



Also using the Dremel I drill the hole for the magnet.



Now the magnet is glued in and set aside to dry.

Those are awesome. I'm surprised that tiny magnet can hold those things up.

Nice process. You should get a router, then you could just use a finished one as a template and probably save a ton of time on the cutout.

The magnets are rare earth magnets and are really strong.

i have thought about using a router but was worried that it would chip the edge. Maybe it would be fine. I dont have to do any retouching at all with the scroll saw and the edge is smooth enough to skip sanding.

Good cuts -- is it a standard saw blade? Are these little fellows for sale? Pretty much everything you do is righteous in my opinion -- you make nice things.
