Screen print - getting all the layers

Howdy,
So i am pretty new to this screen printing game.
I keep wondering if i am doing this an arse about face way.
Wonder if i can get any pointers.
I do pen sketches. with maybe some crosshatching.
then scan and in photoshop work out what colours are going where.
i keep it to 3 colours (and white background)
i then cut out each of the colours and paste each colour into a new page and make them black.

Is there an easier way than this? probably some sort of photoshop setting which can allow me to isolate each colour.

I then print out and oil up for exposure with photo sensi emulsion. That bit works fine.

Any advice would be gratefully recieved.

Sounds like you're doing just fine to me. Your method is a cake walk compared to others especially since you are limiting the set up to three colors. If you want to make your life easier then you should consider getting an exposure set up that doesn't require all the messy oil and shit. I'm guessing that's a pretty big bottleneck in your process right now.

ah ok. good and thank you.
the exposure set up is one thats been tried and tested by someone else. one day i may get my own but his works fine and as for all the oil and shit thats all fine with me, for now.
will expand on colours, well going for a 3 colour with an overlay next. hopefully the yellow over the blue is going to green it for me in areas.

get some drafting mylar (it's frosty and takes pen and ink well) and ink directly on it....use that for your posi.
