I live in italy and spent most of my working life into graphic design and illustration but in the last years I've found myself more involved in photography and photomanipulation.
Too much maybe so I strongly needed to get back drawing and some months ago I started studying screenprinting basics....
...until a great hit of good luck came along: a guy here in Rome gave me all his equipment for free! a vacuum table a light table, two drying racks and an exposure unit!
equipment was very worn so I had to spend some time restoring it but finally I made it and started out, also thanks to the many suggestions and hints find here, so I decided to post here some of shots taken during this little adventure:
ok, equipment was given free but the first expense had to be renting a truck with some guys to help me out moving in the stuff!
did I mention my studio is on the top of a 3 story building?
late evening, everything in.
the exposure unit was huge (2x1 mt) and all made of metal, impossible to fit in my studio (and enter the door) so I decided to disassemble it, take parts out and build a smaller one:
uv tubes:
electronics:
building the new exposure unit (helper shown)
I used 9 40W Philips UV tubes, approximately spaced 10 cm far from each one and glass is 30 cm far from the lamps: with this specs I have an optimal exposure in 7 minutes.
the vacuum table needed the major restoration: motor had to be adapted to voltage available in my home studio and put in a new switch:
removed plane...
and opened each one of the thousand tiny holes, previously completely obstructed by ink!) each one with a needle!
new counterweights....
finally exposing! thanks to all in this forum who posted the useful information that let me get this far!
actually my washing unit:after doing my first test and cleaning all the stuff by hand I decided an high pressure water washer was the best gift I could give to myself.
and finally mi first gig poster rolling out! decided to keep it simplest for the first time but at time of drawing I've already done a two color run for another gig (soon to be posted!)
I'll add some videos later!
thanks for watching, comments and crits welcome! ^_^
