Why can't I see photos in some threads?

This seems to happen in threads where a lot of photos are being posted, such as the "What y'all look like", which I was looking forward to. I'll see the little blue box with a question mark where a photo should be, or nothing at all. sometimes I'll see a link like this:

I'll click on it and just get the GP home page.

I've tried reloading the page, loading in another browser--same shit. WTF? I run on a Mac, but I don't think that has anything to do with it as a lot of people here do too. This isn't happening with any other sites.

i'll answer this question.

The problem is because those posts are likely over a year old or so. Many of the photos were uploaded to a site the hosts photos and they only store them for a certain time. There have also been site updates that have deleted some of the old photos, I think.
