Please refrain from discussing issues other than the poster in the comments section.
It is there to post COMMENTS on the poster.
Were you at the show? Was it a good show? How big is the poster? Do you like the art? Does it mean something to you? Do you like that color? Is that your favorite band? Is that the best poster by that artist? Do you have one hanging on your fireplace? Did you steal one off a pole when you were 16? Where can I buy this? I wish I was at that show.
Thats way I see it.. and that is why it was built that way.
Please keep other discussions in the forums.
It seems that these forums have been taken over by the designers. I know there are hundreds and hundreds of other visitors stopping by daily. Frankly, I think they are afraid to get involved, because any negative opinion made is cut down by the 'clique'.
An outsider (non-artist) can very easily hop on here, look at a poster, and say it stinks. It is very easy for a non-artist to judge a poster very quickly, and decide if they like it or not.
This is a really tough situation, and there might be no obvious solution.
Artists never like someone telling them that a piece of their work stinks. No one does. A lot of time and effort goes into EVERY single poster on this site, be it a silkscreen full color poster, or a black and white photocopied handbill.
I, for one, am not an artist (well ... I'm a musician, but thats a little different). When I look at a poster, I see it very differently than an artist would. I do not critique the craftmanship, style of font or have any idea what has been 'done before'. I look at it, and if it has bands that I like on it.. and it looks cool, I like it.
I guess my point is.. everyone has an opinion. Everyone looks at a poster differently.
My suggestion:
Commenters: Post comments on the posters you like. I'm sure this will keep you busy for a while. Unless you have already sifted through the thousands of posters on the site...
Designers: Try not to take offense so easily. I know its hard, but you can't expect everyone to like it.
90% of the visitors to this site are here to see gig posters .. and will form their own opinion. A bad comment on a poster will not ruin the fact that they like it - or want it hanging on their fireplace.
Thats all for now.. I hope we can turn this around and work together as a community.
