    reality check:

Bands do NOT need 'gigposters' as they are known here. they can do quite well on their playing, like you know, music, that people like.

'gigposters' NEED bands, as that is the one and ONLY reason a valid gigposter exists.

    it is a POSTER

    for a GIG

    by a BAND.

hence the band AUTOMATICALLY, has 100% say over any poster done for them.

    end of story.

It's weird that there are so many comments about how the industry is headed towards the doing free posters and hoping to recoup. It's kind of always been the majority of how it is done. The "Kozik model" if you will.

If anything it seems to me that MORE people are getting paid as opposed to less. But, I haven't really been knee deep in the business of it for a few years.

my 'model' worked because back then there where maybe 4 people diong 'gigposters' as we know them as oppossed to 400.

    and we had no 'expectations'.

When you look at the people that sell out of gigposters. It has alot to do with great art and hustle.
I see people like Andy Diesel, Jeral and Stainboy. Busting there asses and
    MAKING IT HAPPEN.

I just don't do good with getting my money down the road.

maybe there will be a day when I can live my dream, which is to just design posters and not worry one little bit about selling them.

I know this is crazy talk as a lot of you make all or part of your living off these things... I don't care if it's art, merch, promo, whatever. I just want to make them and not worry about the rest of it. There is value in my approach.

Having to worry about selling them was what killed it for me. Too much work after so many years. I would totally do posters if I didn't have to worry about hustling to make money selling them. That is why i moved more towards t-shirt/merch design. I get paid to do pretty much the exact same artwork and never have to deal with sales.
