I use sharpies all the time, to simulate weathered painted signs.
A half-dead sharpie, scanned/photographed and tweaked, looks just like faded brushstrokes.

Indeed. I like how sharpies are similar to paint brushes in that as they get abused they can be used for different effects.

I use the fine point Sharpie markers for a lot of my line work. I wish they were a little more dense of a black, however. Next to ink, they look almost midnight blue or something..

Here's a few of mine-- sketchbook sharpie drawings blown up and screen printed over ink/watercolor washes.
