a few years ago i printed a few second runs for some of my earlier posters. i will never do it again. most of the reasons were like you mentioned... running out too early and having people asking about buying a sold out print every other day sucks. especially when the other prints just stack up and collect dust. i numbered them as a whole new set, wrote "second printing" next to the number, and sold them for a lower price. i wouldn't advise doing it, but i still did it. never again.

Never had a first printing. I used to do mostly lame offset gig posters.

It's not really about having something new to offer. I really do not want to turn people away, and not for financial reasons (though that is part of it). This particular poster is not a gig poster and has a lot of emotional and historical heft. I am getting emails from people who want to get this poster for their grandkids to remind them of their struggle. It's really not wall porno like many other posters you folks are familiar with, so I would feel bad if someone couldn't enjoy it because it was sold out. That sounds pretty lame and megalomaniacal, but its true. I really don't give a shit about narcissistic collectors, thats not my audience.

I would say fuck it and not number it, but that seems to run counter to the rest of the screen-print poster industry. This really wouldnt be an issue if I could afford to run 500-1000 and also afford to sit on them if they didn't sell. I can do that with offset, not with screen prints.

Do your 200, and do another 75 on a different color paper, charge double for the 75, you get yours and collector freaks get to use up another sheet of mylar.

But don't reprint.

Yeah its four color, I could switch up the scheme I suppose. I'm really a nobody so I don't expect there to be too many collector freaks though.

Don't number them and don't call them limited edition, then keep printing them until people stop buying them.

second third fourth fifth printings are old news and standard procedure. do whatever you want, just advertise it correctly.

also what dan says, print a million and don't number them. either way as long as the buyer knows what it is, it's all fine.

That makes sense, let the 1st edition be collector fodder and allow the rest of the public access at a reasonable price. Smart man.
