Default Framing Disaster! Some advice, please?

i'm not sure what i should do at this point. i've been using this framer for a while now and thought they were doing the right thing but as it turns out they're lying scumbags who told me they were framing my prints "archival" and knew exactly what they were doing when in fact they had no clue. they said that all their supplies were acid-fee but they're not. they used generous amounts of masking tape and some high-tack cloth tape to secure the prints instead of acid-free corners. now 5 of my prints are destroyed, 3 chantrys, 1 forbes and one shag. i'm sure you all know what i feel like doing right now but i was hoping to get some advice on what i can do to be compensated or if any of you have been in a similar situation.

i would imagine you could take legal action if you wanted to take it that far.

yeah, tape is on the back. rediculous amounts of it. when i first went to the dude i told him how im wanted them framed, acid-free matting, corners, etc. he stopped and assured me that he knew what he was doing. i took his word for it.

so the only issue is non-archival tape was used, right?

i can understand not wanting that on the back, but it sounds like the posters are far from destroyed.

however, he did not do the work that you requested...you should get some money back or discounts on future jobs.

If he halfway knew what he was doing then the tape may be reversable. The cloth tape is most likely linen tape that just needs to be moistened to remove. I find it hard to believe any framer would use regular masking tape. Most likely it's art tape that is acid free. But if they truly are the scumbags you suggest then you're outta luck. The posters themselves are most likely not on archival stock themselves, at best they're alphacellulous that's been ph neutralized.

right...it's probably acid free tape.

if you're keeping them framed...don't worry about it.

it's definitely masking tape, not artist tape. it's been on there for a couple of years now. also, he used regular cardboard for the backing. when i say rediculous amounts of masking tape, i mean rows and rows of it for no good reason. if anything, one strip across the top would've done the trick.
