    an unlimited number of colors is one way to push the medium. another would be to give the artist a limited palette. sometimes having boundaries gives way to new ideas. the artist would be forced to think about how he/she deals with color, print production/separating, ink mixing, printing, etc. i appreciate the work that goes into getting the most out of the fewest number of screens unless the concept calls for something different. truly collaborating and developing a great relationship with a printer is always a good learning experience, for both.
