ok, so mid april i head up to the mountain (stevens pass) with a few friends and bust out some of these in the fresh snow:
and snap a couple of photos of our surroundings:
future art print envisioned and convert to a bitmap:
a couple of months later, after design is all finished up,
it's time to print out some films:
coat up some screens (3 total, cause i've got 3 colors)
i print 13"X19" films so i have to tape them together before
they go under the lamp for 7 mins. i also tape the film corner
to the screen and put a sheet of glass on top of it to prevent the
film from moving around:
how we roll in the northwest:
time to washout the screen with some light spray to prevent
overwashing and the stencil blowing out:
after the screens dry overnight, i tape up the bottoms and the outside
edge of the top so my ink stays in control and doesn't wander:
time to register my first color by taping the film to the paper i'm using:
slide it under the screen, and line it up through the stencil.
when it's all lined up, i flip the vacuum switch and ad my tabs
to the bottom and side (1 tab at the bottom, and two on the left edge:
i spray a little water on the screen and wipe the top and bottom
down with a cloth to get the ink flowing smoothly:
drop in the white ink, pull a couple of test prints, and we're looking money!
it's important for me to have some heavy music rockin' on the ipod
because it makes me work faster and the time fly:
100 of the first color done:
i take the 2nd color film and line it up on a print and tape it down.
register this color just as before:
when printing, the order:
flood, register, pull, remove and repeat:
cha-ching!
ok, last color.
i mix a little bit of red with gold metallic to make bronze.
drop that in, pull 100, and i'm done:
number, title, sign and washout my screens and I'm ready for the next print.
final print:
