1. Write the bands names in big block letters at the top of your paper. The bigger and blockier, the better. You want people to know these bands are "hardcore".
2. Follow this formula: band name, picture, venue. Top to bottom. Don't try to be too original.
3. Put a picture of a devil girl, some flames, a flaming devil girl, a skull, a flaming skull or a devil girl's flaming skull in the middle of your poster.
4. Include the venue.
5. Copy, paste, repeat.
Attempting to deviate from this formula could seriously diminish your level of hardcoreness.

I agree SNAPDRAGON: Many of these artists need to deviate from making the SAME OLD POSTER...over and over again. Skulls and flames and devil chicks and hot-rods are cool...once or twice. More than that? Then, they get BORING...GIMMICKS!

ITs always nice when the gigposters have something REMOTELY to do with the band. Maybe its just me, but some of the posters by well known designers sometime seem like more of a showcase for the designer's ideas rather than getting out the message of the band... agree? disagree?

This one is pretty different... If you cut it out you can build a little box. (This poster is over thirty years old and comes courtesy of my former gig-going mom. Thanks mom!)

it's worth remembering that these things are meant to be seen first & foremost, from a distance too...as an artist i'd be the last to say that the aesthetic element isn't important but really if it's been seen & taken in then it's done its job...that i guess means a certain amount of formula to ensure people know it's a gig poster...you can get as clever as you like on a poster but it's all for nought if noone can tell yre advertising a gig...
