I admire your ability to refine things, dude. That's exactly how I was taught, but now it seems that I jump forward several steps.

Very nice indeed! I love 'Process' threads.

I work almost exactly the way JP does...

most important thing you need to know are your pathfinder tools. learn them the right way and youll be gold.

also the "expand appearance" command will turn into your best friend.

Thanks All! I’m always glad to share my work with the GP community… process threads have always been one of my favorite things to read on gigposters.com so I like to share too when I have the time.

Honestly, I don't spend a lot of time vectoring... the more I vector, the faster and more accurate I become. I might have spent an hour and a half total vectoring from the pencil drawings... all pen tool and mouse. Like Chris mentioned, the pathfinder tool helps keep things neat... and knocks about a half hour off of my vector time!

The majority of my time is spent sketching a dozen layouts or re-drawing the pencil comps to remove any guess work once I move them on screen. That’s actually something I picked up from my printmaking class in college last year, I found that like a linoleum or wood cut, the more time I spent on drawing/planning, the less time I would spend carving or in this case vectoring…

Also, a lot of the extra layers of color within the various elements are added during the layout process to ensure uniformity.

For my buck, having all of my elements vectored gives me a TON of flexibility when it comes to layout. And it allows me to use Illustrator's magic wand tool to adjust the color without having to ever sort through the layers trying to select all of one color....

Also, today I have started and finished a flash banner for this show as well....

If I have time later, I'm going to make an animated version of this poster also... snow falling, eye winking, ect.... With all of the online promoting that goes on these days, I think flash posters will be a hot promotional item soon if they aren't already....
