yeah i think the BIG diffrence between this and kozik's early work is a) kozik's stuff is obviously parody
and b) no one will assume you are taking credit for an image when it's an obvious pop culture icon.

putting hello kitty , fred flinstone or ronald mcdonald on a poster is fine because those are recognised icons that no one will assume the designer of the poster created.while stuff that's well known in the design world is generally not know to the general public (or even many designers) it implies that the person using the image/layout is trying to take credit for it.

I was surprised by the Ames piece; most of their stuff seems to be very well-done tributes to things like popsicle packaging. Great craftsmen with enviable chameleon-like abilities.

the one thing that amazes me which i said in another comment section is how a lift from something "known" gets alot more heat over something obsure.. its still lifting.

now if lifting is bad.. i guess thats what you are talking about right?

    so. yeah.

Well, I must say I agree now having read through the comments and seeing the original piece. I too found myself inspired by the Ames Bros... only to now see that they're pulling artwork and giving it the Eichelburger effect? How many other times have they done this? Just brought down the value of the Ames work by quite a lot in my mind.

I saw a comment in there about paying homage to the original artist...

So do it in his style... CREATE something new, but with the same shapes or something. At least make some major changes!

I too feel a little cheated.

    just my 2 cents though.
