Hey everybody. First post - I've been reading this very cool forum on and off for a couple of years and have decided to jump into the fray!
I know you all are primarily music poster/print collectors but you may be interested in expanding your collecting to "reel art"! To help out newbies, I've built a new website MoviePosterCollectors.com that is 100% non-commercial and geared to new movie poster collectors.
My goal was to build a site equivalent to Movie Poster Collecting 101 that is very visual and straightforward. The movie poster collecting hobby is quite overwhelming to a novice and the existing sites are inadequate, outdated, and/or geared to promote dealer sales. It's a site that I wish had existed when I started collecting two years ago. (I personally have 1000+ movie posters but only 10 or so gig posters - need to work on that!)
Perhaps the most valuable part of the site is the authentications section. There are many movie poster bootleg/reprints out there and newbies can't distinguish them from originals. Excellent authentications are scattered across the Internet and I've linked to the best ones here and added a few of my own.
You definitely should check out the Showcases page - if you think "real" movie posters are drab compared to gig posters, you'll quickly change your mind after looking through these. I recommend the Vintage Animated posters showcase, the Vintage Monsters posters showcase, the Monsters Carrying Women Showcase, and the International Art posters showcase, for starters. The site also has several movie art print showcases too.
The site also features a Resources page (links to other movie poster sites), a Collectors page (links to outstanding movie poster collections), a How To Buy page, a Framing/Displaying page, and much more.
Please check it out when you get a chance and provide me some constructive - or unconstructive if you must(!) - feedback. If you think it's useful, please refer it to anyone interested in movie posters collecting and a link to it on your site, so it will rise in the search results and (hopefully) a newbie will find it and learn some useful info.
'Nuff said!
