    Default my first two posters

ive been screening apparel and other textiles for a few years now but never a poster

one day the phone rang and it was a daesigner working for the melvins /totimoshi
she asked if i screened posters?

"of course i do" i respond at this point im stoked to add this into my portfolio

who gets to print for the melvins as their first poster ever?

well i bought all the inks, some new screens and built a jig.

thats when i got the art..lettering was way too small and black on top of a burgandy backround..

i plead my case to change it up that it wouldnt be readable and make for a bad print, but she insisted i didnt adjust her art in any way-and ive learned not to try and change a graphic artists mind

any way im looking for some feedback on my prints

i think the valley of the sun poster turned out slick- the band loved em and even ordered another 50 on the spot..

let me know what you guys think you have been doing this alot longer than i have

Well you know... not too small for a high mesh count, but maybe for fabrics mesh.

Looks like it's pretty nicely printed though. The bottom one is working a little better for me.

i didnt mean too small to print i meant to small to be read-able..especially black on halftoned burgandy and the steel blue paper..all around too dark to read i dig the snakes..
just wish the art was better could have made for a cool poster

    Thumbs up

I picked up that Melvins poster at the Santa Fe show and I like it a lot.
A hell of a lot better than the offset spring tour poster they sold earlier in the year.
I saw many in peoples hands after the show so it must have gone over well with the other attendees which is all that really matters.

    Having said that...
The text is almost unreadable beyond arms length but it reads fine when it's in your hands. Slightly disorienting but still clear enough to read.
Beyond arms length the text blends in and it looks like a darker gradient at the bottom so maybe that was the intention.
On the wall it looks less like a tour poster since the text fades out.
Both good and bad. It looks nice but the point is to promote the shows.

My best friend went to the Casbah show and got one too. He's not a poster collector at all but he really liked the print, enough to trade cash for it.

That's a success in my book!

Can I ask how many were printed?

lazy- awesome thats exactly what i wanted to hear, glad you/ others dig it..
i printed 101 of that poster
did they not sign and number them? i was told they were going to be signed and numbered by the designer..
oh well again thanks for letting me know and not bashing my print job

They did not appear to have any signed. Mine definitely is not.

No bashing required, you did a fine job printing them.

some people don't get that the words are sometimes sposed to be readable.
