Default Hello you talented devils. I'm new!

    Hi all

I was given the Gig Posters book for my birthday a few days ago, and I tell you, it's the gift that keeps on giving. Very very nice!

Anyhow, i'm an illustrator and designer, and have done several posters in the past, but have never printed them myself (screenprint or otherwise), and I just have a few questions about the whole scene, if anyone would be kind enough to indulge me..

So am I right in saying that most of the posters featured here are kind of 'fan' created - i.e. not commisioned from a band, label or venue? So a band you love is coming to your town, so you work your magic and create a kickass poster then stick it up in shop windows/lamposts etc? What about limited edition runs? Are they generally self-funded and self-organised?

That's about it really.. pardon my ignorance!
    Matt

Ok, forget most of that - i've just seen that all the featured posters have the artists permission - cool beans.

Actually, the answer to your first question is the exact opposite of what you've assumed. All posters here
are commissioned by band/label/venue or a combo of those.

    welcome.

That is absolutely NOT TRUE. Plenty of of unsanctioned posters here. Plenty.

Let's be clear here: While there are probably many unsanctioned/questionable posters on this site, there aren't supposed to be. Unless a phony poster is called out and brought to the attention of the site owner for removal, it'll probably stick around. Clay doesn't spend his afternoons policing submissions. But that doesn't mean that fan art belongs here, or that one should feel encouraged to submit fan art to this site.

There are also many interpretations of what is and isn't an actual "poster". That being part of the problem.
