SO: I was fortunate enough to have the members of Muse, one of the biggest bands on the planet and one of my top-5-all-time bands, select my poster as their favorite in a recent poster contest held online, and then backstage at their show at Oracle on the 14th. Holy shit, what a trip. I had decided early on that if i was selected to the top five that I would do a screenprinted version of the poster to bring them and the radio station as gifts (and to show off). Hell, I learned to print from Ron and Chuck, so I've basically been groomed to want to print everything.
It was freakin' sweet, we all got backstage, met the band, and got to give our work a 30 second pitch. I was talking fast for sure, and can i say "starstruck?" Jesus. What made it extra cool (besides winning) was the fact that a huge motivation for making rock posters is the opportunity to meet the members of bands that I revere, and interact with them on the common ground of being an artist, perhaps garnering a little mutual respect and admiration. Muse is one of those bands I had literally told myself that I would never have the opportunity to meet through poster art.
Damn, I guess I was wrong.
Everyone really seemed to appreciate the fact that I had put in the extra effort to print my own version, and I was glad I did, as the giclee that the radio station had printed were somewhat lacking (BIG surprise).
So basically it was great, thanks to the guys, thanks to Live 105 for hosting it, and thanks Chuck and Ron for getting me press time, and teaching me to print everything.
Cheers!
