By now(thanks to this site), some of you have been able to gander at the genius of Art Chantry. For those of you new to his stuff, this isn't the only place to look. Check 95% of the covers done for Estrus Records and you'll see him there. There's a lenghty interview with him at http://www.rotodesign.com. There's also a nice tribute site out there(can't remember the URL...sorry). But the real icing on the cake is Some People Can't Surf, an awesome book for any fan of poster art(and smart design). Check it out!

I figure he still is. He moved to someplace in Illinois. He used to live in Seattle, but apperently the city has become safe and gentrified, and he wanted no part of it. I know he's still doing stuff for Estrus Records.

Thanks Mr. Fantastico for giving me a heads up on Art Chantry's new book. It is awesome! An essential part of any self-respecting designer's bookshelf. And props to powells.com for getting me the book fast and under retail. People, I don't care what your style is, take a look at this book and you will see some wonderful designs.

Art Chantry is an art stealing hack. He's loveable, yes, but it's the work of the people behind him that creates such a stir over his work. He is the father of "found" i.e. stolen art. He couldn't draw flies. Lovely guy, but it's patently absurd to rank him anywhere as an artist whose legacy will continue.

what are you talking about.. art draws, man kinda harsh, but thats ok... all i know is about 90% of the artists i know love arts work-heck some of his stuff is incredible.. there are gonna be people who dont like him, i understand your point.. but man, people said the same shit about warhol, but warhol made a difference if you chose to blow off all the works he did for indie rock and punk, its your right but its hard to throw a stone towards a bunch of artists and not hit someone who has much love for art chantry

Fraizer Art Chantry is a master designer whom has been featured in almost every major design annual AND punk rock flyer for years. His talent is giant and far reaching. Try getting his book and read his comments about illustration and design before you make some stupid comment that makes you sound like an idiot.

I'm sorry you guys, but I'm not a big Art Chantry either, nothing ever grabbed me about anything I've seen of his. Maybe I should see more, but I'd rather stare at a Magritte all day, or keep studying WPA posters from the 30s-40s, now those were some sick (and unknown) artists. But I'll admit, my knowledge of art history is pretty thin, and always evolving, so maybe that attitude will change.

Again, I have trouble with this "Frazier" character.

I am not a huge fan of Art Chantry's work. But I certainly have tremendous respect for what he has accomplished. Actually "Frazier" no other poster artist has received more acceptance within the graphic arts community than Chantry. If you had done your research, he has consistently been featured in magazine articles, design annuals and books--more so than anyone else listed here.

I find his artwork too raw. But many people view his rawness and experimention to be refreshing. Most people at least respect him for the chances he takes. Where there's risk there's the chance of success or failure and Chantry has never been afraid to take risks. At the very least he deserves respect for that.
