Hey guys, thanks for all the comments, helpful or not.

It's been a while since I opened this topic, but here's what I came up with in the end.

Not a big fan of stretched out lettering if it wasn't designed to be that way. You would have a better outcome drawing it all to get the same texture as the illustration I bet. The top text runs into each letter so it's hard to read. The band text is working for me because it's larger, but the date is all kooky. Take out the dashes and create something like | or // or :: or create a small graphic that relates to your image. A sea shell, an eye ball, her belly button thing. Or make it secondary to the band text. It's still a little large. If you made it smaller, or decreased the text block it might help.

Ultimately your number one problem is that photoshop is about the worst problem to lay out type in. Terrible. try using indesign or illustrator to lay it out in and then import as an eps or whatever. Also NEVER stretch type to fit an area, thats the lazy mans way to do it. Im not gonna say what some say about only using one font or tow...if you can do it tastefully I have seen people use 4 or 5 and make it look slick. Maybe even try hand drawing it...

Typography is really very tricky to get right, especially since you're not only considering the aesthetics of the final product but also the readability and the neatness. It should be of some help to search for some typography tutorials because there isn't only one working technique that you can learn.

I'm assuming you're printing these digitally?

Like loco said I would shy away from putting effects on typo, once you start using drop shadows and gradients and inner glows it kills any impact the type has and just starts blending.

Considering this show was over two months ago I'm gonna guess it's too late for typographic tips.

Use at least 12 different fonts, but only use system fonts. Monaco, Times, Courier, Zapf Dingbats, Impact, and so on.

    Good luck!
