My name is Gary Houston I live in Portland, Oregon USA. I’m a graphic designer and illustrator who makes concert posters under the moniker of Voodoo Catbox. I do posters for local venues and touring bands. Each poster is a limited edition, hand pulled screen print. The artwork is created in a variety of ways. Some are scratch- board illustrations, some are hand- cut films and some are inked. The color separations on each poster are generated by hand- cutting film on a light table. Screens that have been coated by a light sensitive emulsion, with each color separation exposed to a light source to create a stencil. Each of these screen stencils are registered, and printed by pushing ink through the screen with a squeegee. The last color printed is the line art which holds the composition together. Think of it as a building process as each color is printed, it completes a piece of a puzzle.
