    Default using images from gigposters

so, i've been searching the forums, but haven't really been able to find anything addressing this question. what are the rules / issues surrounding the use of images from gigposters on other websites? for example: if i was writing a music review to be published on the web about Henry Rollins and wanted to include an old Black Flag flyer as illustration, would that be frowned upon? is there a general rule or does it depend on the flyer/artist - some flyers have a link to a designer, but some of them just have "submitted by" - so i'm wondering if i can just credit images as coming from gigposters.com or if i should just not use images from this site?

    -thx

It's better not to use anything from this site, but I'd always credit the artist at the very least, if you do.

Yeah, credit the artist, and as long as you aren't selling anything, you should be fine.

Why not go straight to the source?

Seems to me that if you aren't selling anything it ought to be fine, but I don't know anything about legal issues. If some old Black Flag flyer is on this site, then why not on your site? But credit the artist for sure.

    Default thanx!

Yeah - i'll probably play it safe - if i can actually focus on this project long enough to write anything substantial... and try going to the source whenever possible - besides, my maniacal laugh isn't as good as it should be....

If you can find the image on here, you can find out who the artist is that created it, ask them, and 100% of the time they will give you permission to use their image. If it doesn't say stat a thread and ask - somebody will know. No matter how obscure, somebody will know who did it.

Don't ask and you may come to rue the day you crossed them.
