I work at home (sometimes without a vehicle in the driveway) and keep a hatchet right next to the bed. First fingers I see coming thru a window are going to become souvenirs.

I had a friend who lived in a very small house in a really bad part of Pittsburgh...he had several occasions of arms coming through the windows...like a freakin' zombie movie

Sorry Andy, that's a shitty way to come home from a sunny trip.

They caught my thieves - one of them was a small 14 year old girl who couldn't have been 100 pounds soaking wet. I was asked to go to the arraignment and she showed up all covered in makeup and bling. Looks like a gutter slut. I was more sad for her than anything else.

My house insurance didn't cover car parts so I lost about $5000 in wheels and tires that weren't recovered.

As for the violated feeling, I never really got that - I got a lot of my crap back and I was just glad no one was hurt, and I haven't changed my life at all. Them being aught probably helped.

i used to have people turning my door knob at all hours when i lived in the tenderloin. no hatchet, but i had a ball bat. it was still scary as hell, and i'm 6-2 over 200 and was 25 years younger.

sad news to hear, andy. i hope the insurance and police can recover what you lost.

pauls advice is good, just don't use ADT if you have it up there.

Andy you are of course aware that when someone steals your clan claw you are honor-bound to don a kilt and go and disembowel him with a claymore and you must then make a haggis of his lights and stomach and eat it with neeps, tatties, and 18 year old Talisker.
I look forward to hearing about how you maintained your honor!
