Wow, Johnny just stole me heart.

Yeah, so listen, dude: There's not a standard one-size-fits-all deal. Here's some guidelines:

1. Get permission. From the bands, the promoter, the club, et cetera.
2. Make something awesome.
3. Give whatever you agreed to to the band / club / promoter
4. Sell the rest. Realize you could make more money making french fries.

I'd say that's pretty solid advice right there.

You forgot:
5. Get on the guest list for the gig.
6. Drink beer and/or do drugs with cool people.

I should put that on my business card.

Unless its through a promoter,.. you are gonna be covering the cost of everything. Even with a promoter, you end up covering cost most of the time,... depends on the show size. But yeh... like guy up top said....

1.) Get permission from band & venue. Explain how many prints.. and work out who will sell (will be you almost 100% of the time). Ask for comp ticket, most times they will give you 2.
2.) Work out ahead of time how many comp copies for band/venue and if band/venue require a percentage of sales. Some venues have polices like 10% or 20%,.. don't bring it up unless they ask.
3.) Get approval from band on final image before printing... sometimes you will get screwed if you don't.
4.) Sell and give me 40%.
