Carve out your own niche and find distribution on your OWN.
Bypass everybody and DO IT YOURSELF.

I have some friends with a restaurant who had a guy with a guitar playing live music one night a week.
BMI found out about this and started harassing them to pay royalties even though the musician had never even played a BMI song. They just figured that eventually he would.
Now that's ballsy.
