    Default Copyright Question.

When does an image become my own...

I find a badass image that needs to be used in a posters...I play around with design it up, add elements...I've heard if you change something 15 % it can be called your own...is that totally off base?

I mean, how does everyone use Planet of the Apes stuff ?

Or does everyone just steal ?

There are 2 schools of thought here...there are the "illustration" style poster artists who create their own images...(Scrojo,Maxflo, Hampton, Ewing, Jermaine, Kozik....etc.etc.) "Influenced" perhaps by some photos they have seen. There are also "photo realism" poster artist here who use bits and pieces of photos and put their very unique touch on them. There have ben plenty of threads on this subject, check the archives for some very informative discussions. As a rule I try not to use photos of any kind, I try and create my images by hand, through various techniques, thus assuring that an image in truly yours. But that's just my opinion, many people will argue this point.

    ...so read away...
