Thought this info might be useful. There may have been some recent changes that I don't have here though... so this is just a guide.
In fact I believe in 'work for hire' or corporate copyrights it might even go a little longer. I think those were recent changes to protect Disney characters that would have been public domain in the next couple of years.
Anyway...here ya go.
• Any work created on or after 1978 (by an individual author or authors) is protected for 70 years past the last surviving authors death. Whether it has a copyright notice or not.
• Any work published after 1977 but before 2003 is copyright protected 70 years after the last author dies or through 2047, whichever is longer.
• Any work published in the US before 1923 is public domain
• Any work published from 1923 to 1963 is copyright protected for 28 years IF it was published with a copyright notice. Copyright could originally be renewed for 47 years, now extended by another 20 years for a total of 67. If it was never renewed it is now in the public domain.
• Any work published from 1964 to 1977 is copyright protected for 95 years if it was published with a copyright notice.
