    Default copyright/ legislation

hey all. don't know if this has been covered before but i was wondering if an experienced designer could give me a bit of advice-

i'm about to start designing posters for a venue in nottingham (england) and i'm looking into possibly selling the posters but have been trying to work out who has the copyright control? the promoter i've been talking with says i'd have to ask the band's permission, however, i've noticed that a number of designers (tara mcpherson, seldon hunt, burlesque etc) sell copies of posters through their sites and this one. is this the case?

    thanks very much,

    .mike.

almost all the artists here sell their posters. depends who youre dealing with i suppose. some bands want a cut of everything, but most dont care.

about 99% of the posters you see for sale here are with the consent of the band or label etc.

we get permission to sell directly from the band. always on their terms too. if they dictate the size of the run we evaluate if it's worth doing the run. Everyone we've worked with are really appreciative that we contact them and work directly with the band. Our venues/promotors are great and supportive but they ultimately can't grant aftermarket sales permissions on behalf of any band.
I wait to get aids as of Scrojo... Thanks!

a lot of folks i know go through the venu or promoters (to do the poster). then, at the show, they get permission from the bands to sell.
