you can make the poster and use it to promote the show. if you make the poster just to sell you would need permission from the band or the bands merch rep.

Yes, its technically illegal. So are a lot of things that authority deems bad. What do Robin Hood and Captain Hook have in common? Both are criminals. There are bands, and there are bands with lawyers... Its risky business. If they deserve your time, they'll hire you once you become a big name brand yourself. Its stupid sometimes, but thats unfortunately how it works. Laws...rules... :P Look for the loopholes I guess, or break the rules, or abide. Somebody needs to burn the fuckin house down.
