Default can I make a poster for an opener when I'm positive the headliners will have posters

Some pals of mine that I make shirts and stuff for (the Poison Control Center) are opening for Pavement in Kansas City 9-11-10, and they called me about making a poster for the show for them for the show. I'm well aware that there is an official Pavement series, and that the job for that poster has surely been booked for months now, but what I'm wondering is what is the etiquette for making a poster for the openers? If I were to make said poster it would definitely emphasize their name not Pavement. I've made posters for bands that already have a touring poster and its never been a problem, but I'm not really worried about pissing off the bands.

    Is this kosher?

Will whomever the printer for that Pavement show place a severed horse head in my bed?

    side question:

PCC is pretty much on tour nonstop for the rest of the year, so we had tossed around the idea of just making tour posters, would that be more acceptable/legal to sell at this show?

I don't see a problem with that, as long as Pavement's name isn't on them.

I would always take great delight in making a giant poster for the small local opening band that was way nicer than the big bands posters. pull out all the stops, make a fantastic huge vibrant piece for the opening band and fuck pavement.

I recently did a huge print run of tour posters for a band that is opening for KISS, it is a poster with just the opener's name and "summer tour 2010" on it so it wont at all conflict with the obvious headliner.

maybe just leave Pavement's name off if it has to be for the gig rather than the tour... in real life, not internetz, it doesn't matter how many advertisements are made for a concert.
