Default I'm Convinced! :: Doc Pizzoli Book and Exhibition Process Thread

BUY THE BOOK! <--link to classified to purchase Where the Night Train Goes, my latest limited edition artist book

This is a shot from my MFA Thesis Installation which opens this Friday.

    Here's the info:

    I'm Convinced!
    J. Gregory Pizzoli
    MFA Thesis Exhibition
    Friday May 8th 5-8pm
The Skybox at 2424 E. York Street
    Philadelphia

For this show I made about 30 prints, made all my own frames, wooden flags, mountains and a lake, a pretty big drawing, some small sculptural pieces and a hand-silkscreened book which I wrote, drew, printed (32 runs/edition of 125!) and bound myself.

I have a ton of photos and will be posting them here. I hope some of you in the area can make it to the show...

Shot of my custom pedestals , rusted steel with coats of poly to keep the books from getting too dinged up.

Where the Night Train Goes is the silkscreened book I just finished - will be in the classifieds soon..

The Great Race was a book I did last semester, offset guts and silkscreened covers

    Thanks Chloe, BP more pics...

Here are some process shots from the lil' owl print that is in the middle of the cluster seen here:

I do all of my art prints seps by hand soooo...... it starts looking something like this:

I print that with a metallicy gold color and then take that print to the light table, tape another sheet of paper on top of the one I just printed and then draw the next layer.

This way of working keeps the whole process really fresh for me as I can start with an idea of what I want at the beginning, but can change my ideas and rework stuff as I go

Admittedly this is a pretty straightforward print so I'll just post the rest of the pics:

    first layer printed

    second layer drawn

    second layer printed

    third layer drawn

    3rd printed

I kept working all the colors from that originally metallicy-gold so all of the layers have a metallic quality as they are all built from the same ink

I somehow skipped some layers but the final thing was six layers:

    Thanks Tim, Denny and Carlos.

Here are some more close ups of some other stuff I made for the show. Right now I am trying to organize my book printing process shots but in the meantime I made some, well, umm

    I made that shelf too
