google mail is sucking really hard

I can't send out the mail I just spent ages on to the addresses I spent a while compiling (BCCed) because it considers it spam!

I can't send the same message individually to the addresses on the list because it considers that spamming too (I don't know if anyone has got it???)

It suggested I added members to google groups which is annoying but I was exasperated and wrote - "don't join group just flag this invite it has all relevant info" and pasted in the message

THEN GOOGLE SAID THEY WERE GOING TO REVIEW THE GROUP AS IT APPEARRED I WAS SPAMMING - DAMN

speed code - black is just blurb -green is for everyone to read - Blue is for those who cannot attend but want to participate - Red is for those who want to come down

In 2007 Chris (3DGlasses) and Alex (Trashman) put on the first Poster Roast event at the Fighting Cocks in Kingston On Thames. A fun event where gigposter designers created "pub-table stalls" and peddled their wares to the public who were able to walk in for free, mooch about, learn about "the scene", the creative processes employed by the varying designers, have a booze and then, later, watch a couple of wicked bands play. It was great - for me, the networking and friendship affirming pint-chinking was worth it alone, but the sales and aftersales were obviously a welcome plus.

    2008 was weird

In early 2009 Alex (thr33designs) got in touch with the guys and organised another Roast in Cambridge, this time with a slightly more 'exhibition' feel (allowing the event to span a weekend) with some more live band action in the evening, boozey adventures and yes, more sales!

Next month I am hosting (with 3D and Trashman's blessing) a Roast in the Fat Fox pub in Portsmouth. Its a wage weekend (full pockets hopefully!), its over the Glasto weekend (when many folk are looking for ways to distract themselves from what they're missing in Eavis' mudpool), its in a busy part of a vibrant city whose student population has quadrupled in the past 5 years and specifically its in a street (Albert Road) that is brimming with independent traders who are campaigning for arts grants and market licences each year... its kinda rough, ready and refined all at the same time.

I have a good number of designers lined up but there is room for more - we're doing the "pub-table stall" 1dayer thing with the customary bands in the evening - I'm also throwing in a tasteful burlesque dancer into the mix and hopefully some sponsored rum raffles... the music is going to be pretty much bluesy, boozey straight rock and roll so as to appeal to the maximum arc of the spectrum of musical tastes hopefully.

If you would like a stall - its free come on down... if you are traveling from afar (120 miles plus) get in touch and I can probably put you up somewhere on the prior Friday night so you can be fresh for the marketeering.

If you cannot come but would like your work hung in the bar area with a pricetag, thats cool. The bar staff will keep an eye on the pieces as will my lovely assistant on the day who will sell them on your behalf... 10% of those sales will go in the bucket to pay for the event so please provide me with a price that caters for that.
A comprehensive stocklist is also key so that there is no room for error... So, for example

DESIGNER: Mr.Apple BAND: Brainchild DESCRIPTION: A Space-Lynx humping the deathstar (red text) QNTTY: 4 PRICE : £15

I will not adjust the price - I will presume that £1.50 (of that example's sale) is event funding

Either send your work with somebody else who is coming to the event or mail it to...P.P.ROAST. 7b Victoria Grove, Southsea, Portsmouth, Hants. PO5 1NE
Make a note of how much that postage costs you because I'll need that same amount from you to return any prints - hopefully less though eh?
Neither myself or the Fat Fox pub will take responsibility for damages or loss - However I solemnly promise that the staff and myself, the other designers and numerous good folk I know in Portsmouth will be vigilant and will keep an eye out throughout the event (most will come down before the bands play anyhow).

ALL PARTICIPATING DESIGNERS - whether you do collage, xerox, digital, screenprint or other medium - I would like 80 A5 commemorative PPRoast posters on the theme of either Rum*, Blues Rock and Roll or Burlesque, ... no bigger, no smaller please. Please number and sign them (you may do higher editions so as to hold onto some if you wish) and send them to P.P.ROAST. 7b Victoria Grove, Southsea, Portsmouth, Hants. PO5 1NE by FRIDAY June 26th latest - these will be put into bags so that punters can buy something from everybody for just £3 ...this will help pay for the event and keep me out of bailiff's reach. I will also ensure each of you recieve a pack.
*too many Sailor and navy images won't be very popular by the way - a classy burlesque girl will however.

To those thinking of coming down and staying down, bring a tent and sleeping bag! its going to be late june temperatures and there is a good beach party scene in Pompey... I have places we can safely stash the portfolios and stock - and if need be (tropical storm) a couple of places we can hole up - but these are limited and push this sort of thing in to slightly uncomfy territory for me - best behaviour in this case please chaps.

There's a google map for the venue on the first post of this thread by the way

I think thats it - this has probably taken an age to read - I'm really frustrated that this may not get to everyone as soon as an email would - please point folk to this thread and bump it in the brit hours

    cheers,

    Pinch
