I was wondering if there was a thread on this...

Did anyone else there get really destroyed by the storm?
We were one of the lucky few who had their tent collapse and anything paper destroyed.
We lost most of the posters we brought (even though they were bagged in plastic), and some t-shirts (colors bleeding from dark shirts) are gone.

When it came down to it, we lost so much stuff that we didn't come back for Sunday.
I felt terrible, we put a lot of work to try and make it to this, and we lasted maybe 6 hours? And with no tent, the brief rain on Sunday would have been crippling.

Maybe next year, it was a lot of fun up until 4:30.

...yeah...that was rough. i probably lost about 20-25 posters and a bunch of smaller prints.

my studio-mate julie (etui) had the tent next door to me and hers also blew away. it basically lifted up 12-15 feet in the air and flew over the tents behind her, in fact here is a photo of it once it landed in the next aisle:

we were on the face about coming back sunday as well, but i figured if i had anything left to sell at all it would help to pay for the hotel and driving there. luckily we had some stuff left and could do that and we'd bought both tents together, so split my tent with her sunday, since the above one that we paid for was toasted.

sorry that you took such a hard hit, i can imagine how that felt. i was in full panic mode for about 4 hours straight trying to get my stuff down, safe and in the car whilst not be hit by lightning.

We were all the way to the left of that photo against the edge of the pool.
When that one wind gust blew we saw a wave go through the tents and then hit us.
We had a large banner in back which probably acted as a sail. It broke one support. Then a few minutes later, under the weight of the water the other support broke and everything came down. I spent the next half hour holding the tent up with one hand...

When we made our move to get out of there during a lull in the storm, were going through the entrance and it really started coming down. Then going down the ramp everything fell off our cart... it was kind of a nightmare.

Maybe I'll post some picts tomorrow.

Unfortunately that was the last outdoor experience of the year.. No Chicago this year, we were a little slow on the registration.. and then it's filled. Oh well.

Damn, yo. I'm sorry that happened.

Which one were you? We stopped at all the tents, or at least looked em over.

Before-

After-

And I'm still smiling. For a little while longer.

Although later that night we went to the Alligator Lounge. Free pizza with every beer, not many better deals than that.

oh snap! so you guys were one of the tents that flipped up and onto the back decking there??

my friends were the last booth in the far left (from the entrace) row and were packing up and told me about all of the screaming and saw 2 tents had hopped the rail. crap. that sucks, i'm really sorry that happened to you guys.

i can't believe that no one was struck by lightning, thank goodness not. jeeze.

if it makes you feel any better, most of my water damage was because one of my portfolios, the NON water-proof one, also fell off of my wheelie cart when i was rushing to the car and plopped into a fat puddle. i kinda cried for a second there. insult to injury.

but, wow. sorry dudes.

Our Tent almost flipped, except Allison was there to hold it down, all 100 lbs. of her.

We saw the other tents flip.. luckily ours didn't. It just collapsed.
Honestly I don't care about the prints that were ruined, they were only a small number of our stock anyway. Nothing precious was lost. It's more the time put into making this happen, and having kind of fall apart fairly quickly.

Maybe this is dumb of me to think, but being that it was an outdoor event, it would have been nice to get some sort of heads up that there were storm warnings for the area. Some dude came around and told us to weight down our tent (which was impossible), so they must of known something was coming. Then again I guess everyone knew because it wasn't looking so good... I don't know.
