So last year, North by Northeast, the annual music & film festival & conference here in Toronto and sister festival of SXSW down in Austin, was able to start on a project that was a long time coming. And that project was to get a poster show off the ground. So last year went over well and we learned a lot of lessons and got some good feedback. So this year, we’re hoping to expand the show, involve more artists and have it become an annual event.
So come on down, join up and let's rock it out in the middle of downtown Toronto on June 12th at our conference headquarters. There's a stage onsite so you'll have some tunes to listen to, it'll be in the middle of a full-on music fest and you can grab wristbands for a measly $29 if yer into it and the show'll be open to the public, bands'll be registering and roaming around and so will the industry folk and press peeps too! Check out NXNE.com for info about us and either PM here or drop us a line at posters[at]nxne.com for reg'n forms and all the deets on other stuff we're puttin' together for this! |

$80 + $76 for electricity? for a 1-day show? and no free wristbands to any of the concerts or events? and you're soliciting us to volunteering to help out with other stuff for free?
i'm glad other people are having poster shows in toronto.. IT SHOULD HAPPEN MORE OFTEN FOR CHRISSAKES. but man. |

NXNE is trying to establish a poster show up here in Toronto. We don't think that's a terrible thing in the least. Music + posters and visual art have a long history and why not emphasize that at a music festival & conference?
The $80 registration fee goes to pay for the physical setup of the booth/table. Unfortunately, these things do not come for free. And we've been trying to locate sponsors to help offset these costs. That's why we mention on the sign-up form that we're not going to charge anyone anything until we know the absolute lowest cost we can do the setup for. NXNE isn't earning a single dime for anything related to the artists exhibiting/selling their work. As for electricity, as per the registration form, "If you need some very basic power, let us know. But if you’re planning on bringing computers and heaps of stuff, you’ll have to pay the bucks for it." As for "volunteering to help out with other stuff for free?", were you referring to the fact that we're letting people know that we've got extra options available to promote you and your work to thousands of people at zero cost to you? We just approach that as an excellent way to promote the entire poster show idea and artist's talent in Toronto. A reminder though - if you plan on participating, please note that the deadline to have your work and contact info in the official directory bible is the end of this week. You can still sign up after that, but we'd love to include everyone in the directory with their work! pm us here or email posters[at]nxne.com! |

Yeah, this is okay, especially for locals.
Last year was kind of a bust but it was totally last minute and had zero promotion. This year should be better. I'll be there...

You fucking cheapskates.
I have no idea re the venue and the crowd, but have you ever gone to any public event or festival or convention and paid going rates for a booth space? $80? I just booked a 10x10' in Atlanta for this fall it's $2,000. FS shows are super cheap even at a couple of hun - you can bet others are paying double or triple for space at Bumbershoot, Pitchfork, SXSW.
