Contemporary-primitive Abstract Narrative
Contemporary-primitive - of the present, searching for understanding through introspection, a basic wisdom of things based on connection to
ones ideas ideals and dreams rather then institutional, or technological knowledge based on intracacies..
Abstract Narrative - a visual narrative derived from the interpritation of creations made up of intuative actions manifesting as abstract shapes,
forms and emotions. a process without preconcieved plans just a thought and feeling following one after the other to become an idea.. changing directions as forms emerge to find an idea free from judgement, something true in and of itself. from this a world of personal myth, iconography, symbols and beings are created. observiing these creations as they emerge as well as noting there transitions and final meaning one learns to understand what has been stated. through this understanding we see the syncronicity of moments and coincidence in life. a visual narrative where enviorment, being, and understanding all come from the interpritation of this visual diary. a story of potential, growth, and self destiny.
Kyle Gossman
My work is all about bringing new creatures to life through the phenomenon of “Paredolia*”, in which the human perceives order and meaning out of random or chaotic stimulus. My paintings start off as complete abstraction and then through a process of allowing my mind to pull out images, (just as one may pull out images of faces from clouds), I work on manifesting my visions of new creatures. I try to capture a variety of emotions that the viewer can recognize, while at the same time having them portrayed by creatures no one has ever seen before. The facial expressions of the entities tend to explore emotions of confusion, fear, anxiety, and anger. Expressing these emotions on canvas serves as a cathartic way to help myself deal with the feelings throughout my life. The process of creating these paintings is a type of exorcism where I can release my demons, as well as a practice in mindfulness in which I can focus on the joys of creating. My main goal in all of it is to have fun, progress, and create paintings that satisfy the eye, if I think the image looks rad then I have done my job.
*Pareidolia: The imagined perception of a pattern or meaning where it does not actually exist, as in considering the moon to have human features
Patrick Haemmerlein
A native of Kinderhook, NY, Patrick Haemmerlein is a freelance designer & artist living in Los Angeles. After receiving his BFA from The
Savannah College of Art and Design in 2000, Patrick took the long road trip cross country and settled down in LA. There he began to obsessively photograph the city and its components. This gradually moved into a new art form as he started to combine & create with the images he was shooting. Reflecting on the issues of the day, Patrick explores themes of nature Vs. industry and how they can coexist or clash. The images are all designed from photographs that Patrick has taken. The buildings and cityscapes are from Los Angeles while the animal and farm photos were mostly taken around his hometown area in upstate NY. They are not only a juxtaposition of nature and industry, but a combination of imagery from his two homes - one rural and one urban.
