Sanrio (home of Hello Kitty, Chococat, Batz-Maru, Keroppi...) is celebrating their 50th anniversary with a large gallery show in Los Angeles next month. I will have one 22"x30" drawing in the show. I documented the work on my drawing and compiled them into a short time-lapse video.
The drawing is about how ubiquitous cartoon characters are in Japanese culture--to the point where after time, you tend to not see them much at all. The painted shapes are an abstracted map of Tokyo (all in yellows and pinks, except one small blue dot indicating where I lived). I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.
The show details are here: Sanrio.com - Home of Hello Kitty
