GUIT-ART features around 2 dozen customized Waterstone solid body electric guitars by OX-OP / La-La Land Gallery veterans such as Dalek, Aesthetic Apparatus, Gary Baseman, Niagara & Anthony Ausgang (to name but a few) along with a slew of others who have established themselves in the Pop-Surrealism/Lowbrow art world since the gallery stopped booking monthly shows in 2006.

GUIT-ART is the brainchild of St. Paul native-turned-Southern Californian, Kii Arens. Known for his striking Pop-Art designs with a bent for Rock n’ Roll, Kii has created work for such diverse musicians including Dolly Parton, Cheap Trick, Willie Nelson, Liza Minnelli, Devo, & Lady Gaga.

When Amphetamine Reptile got it’s start 25 years ago, it quickly set itself apart from the norm not just musically, but with visually with it’s emphasis on technical prowess & high-impact graphics. It was a time when artists like Shepard Fairey, Coop, Frank Kozik & Shag that were more were known to those in the commercial art circles than they were in galleries. AmRep’s early relationships with the artists eventually bloomed into OX-OP Gallery in early 2003 & many of those showcased artists have since become internationally known figures who’s work now hangs in galleries & museums around the world.

It was through Cheap Trick that Kii met Waterstone Musical Instruments founder, Dr. Robert Singer, a Nashville neurosurgeon & vintage guitar collector. After his medical career was well established, Dr. Singer founded Waterstone Musical Instruments, quickly establishing itself as a unique company building high-quality non-typical instruments. Much of their product line consists of 50's and 60's vintage retro styling using hollow-body and "semi" hollow-body designs. In addition to the increasing number of musical talents endorsing Waterstone, the company has also fostered the work of visual artists too. With such a similar mindset, it seemed only natural to partner with them on GUIT-ART.
