Hi gang,
For the last couple of months since Flatstock 24, Ann Brooks of Black Swan Screenprinting and myself have been working hard to plan a debut of the Serie Project's work in Houston, TX.
Well, the zero hour is finally upon us, with the work going up for sale and on display at the Winter Street Studios this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, August 20th-22nd.
If you don't really know what we're all about, here's the story in a nutshell: After participating in a screenprinting residency at Self Help Graphics, painter Sam Coronado grew an interest in establishing his own print shop. Established initially as a vehicle for Coronado to invite local Chicano artists to experiment in screenprinting, the Serie Project has grown into an annual artist residency that produces 10-20 screenprints per year at not cost to the participating artist. We're a nonprofit!
But that's not all. As an organization, the Serie Project also works hard to promote screenprinting as a fine art technique by actively promoting, exhibiting, and documenting the work of participating artists. We have prints in the collections of the Smithsonian, Benson Latin American Collection, IPCNY, UTSA, UALR, etc. and recently held an exhibit of 40 prints in Slovakia. But the going is still tough, and we could use some support from Houston during this short event.
Check out this short video that the Black Swan crew made to promote the event:
