Exclamation Call for Submissions: Poster Show & Silent Auction

Megatunes Poster Show & Silent Auction

Attention artists and music lovers! Megatunes: Your Music Destination is closing after 22 years, and we need your help to spread the word. In our last operating months, we will be inviting our customers to browse current stock at 25% off. This summer sale will run from July through August 2010. We're calling for your support in the form of poster art donations that will promote this summer long sale at both our Calgary and Edmonton locations.

Megatunes is an independent music retailer established in Calgary, Alberta in 1988. Our flagship street store is located in the heart of the Uptown 17 district of Calgary, and our store in Edmonton is located in the heart of Old Strathcona on Whyte Avenue. Throughout the years, Megatunes has carried a wide selection of Alternative, Blues, Folk & Roots, Jazz, Pop & Rock, Punk Rock, Urban & World Music. Our knowledgeable staff has always been passionate about customer service and working to provide a unique retail music experience. Overall, it has been a pleasure to serve both Calgary and Edmonton as a local independent record store that has lived through some of the most pivotal times in recorded music history seeing vinyl records, cassette tapes, and CD's all colour our shelves. This has been an era during which we have truly had a blast.

Submitted posters will be reproduced and distributed by Megatunes across Calgary and Edmonton, while your original works will be kept safe and exhibited together as part of a silent auction held at a goodbye party hosted by Megatunes at the end of August. The party will also feature live music and be advertised as a public event. Funds raised from the auction will benefit partial to full scholarships at Rocker Girl Camp of Edmonton, Calgary, and Victoria. Rocker Girl Camp provides a unique opportunity for girls between the ages of 10 and 17 to become more self-empowered and engaged with community through their interaction with and mastery of music.

Deadline for submissions is June 30, 2010.

    Submission Requirements:
Please include your name, address, phone number and email address along with your original work!

Mike (i think that was his name) from Megatunes was always way cool to me at flatstocks. He even went out of his way to send me cd's every now and then of bands he thought i would like.

A retail store wants art donated for it's going out of business sale? I don't get it. Then the poster art is sold to benefit a music camp that costs $325 to attend? whaa? Must be missing something.

We're hoping to fund partial to full scholarships to the camp for girls who can't afford it to begin with. Also, Megatunes is a local store with a lot of community history behind it-- this is mainly a local project, but if artists located elsewhere also want to contribute in support of the independent record store, which is sadly becoming more and more rare, i think it could be exciting! if not, that's ok too.

gotcha, makes sense. I'm lucky enough to have an apparently healthy one across the street
